* Dear Farmers’ Market Vendors and Friends: Downtown Danville Inc. hopes to increase the number and variety of vendors at this season’s Farmers’ Market. Whether as individuals or as members of area churches or other organizations, we all possess a unique blend of talents which may help raise some money. Some of you have accumulated a bumper crop of gardening experience and the knowledge that goes along with that. Then again, your green thumb may have just begun to sprout. Maybe your abilities allow you to craft bejeweled baubles that catch the candlelight just so on a warm summer evening. Or perhaps your latest watercolor has yet to dry and your next subject has already presented itself. It’s wonderful to share these same abundant gifts with those you love. However, if the shades are drawn at your sister’s home when you arrive with yet another bushel of apples, come join us at the Farmers’ Market. We welcome the chance to get to know both the apple and the grower. With this year’s market upon us, we are also planning a wide-ranging number of demonstrations, talks and performances. Want to learn how to construct a rain barrel to benefit your own thirsty plants? We’ll cover it. Or how about comparing notes on noodle making techniques? That’s coming, too. In fact, you may very well wish to share your own hard-won skills as either a soloist/single presenter or by joining a small panel to cover a topic of mutual interest. Call us with your program ideas. Share your magic tricks or join the “What do you know that I don’t?” group of speakers. We may not all be experts, but we look forward to having some fun together and learning a bit, as well. Around the country, farmers’ markets have become true community gathering spots. Locally raised foods complete the journey from soil to table. Recipes, ideas and laughs are shared as friendships flourish. This could be the perfect fit when you provide something only you can bring to the table. We hope you will consider joining us at this year’s market.Jean Beck, Market Coordinator
