Arts in Alleys Program

Welcome to the Arts in Alleys Program, an initiative poised to transform alleys of Downtown Danville, IL. Supported through collaborative effort between the City of Danville, Danville Area Visitor’ Bureau, Danville Library Foundation, and Downtown Danville, Inc. aims to inject new life into our downtown alleys through captivating art installations. With a focus on safety, aesthetics, and inspiration, the Arts in Alleys Program invites property owners to join us in revitalizing our cityscape. From captivating murals to dynamic light displays, we're envisioning alleys that reflect the endless possibilities and rich culture of Danville, while providing a welcoming space for residents and visitors alike to explore, connect, and be inspired. Join us in bringing this vision to life and be a part of the transformative journey reshaping Downtown Danville.

    • Property must be alley-facing and within the Downtown Danville district.

    • At this time, tenants renting space in Downtown Danville are not eligible to apply for DDI grants.

  • To participate in the Arts in Alleys Program, property owners must meet specific eligibility requirements:

    • Location: Properties must be alley-facing and located within the Downtown Danville district, ensuring the program's focus remains on revitalizing the heart of our city.

    • Financial Contribution: Property owners are required to contribute 50% of the total project cost. The Arts in Alleys Program provides a maximum contribution of $10,000 per project.

    • Theme Alignment: Art installations must align with the theme, "Possibilities in Danville," celebrating the diverse opportunities and creativity within our community. Whether it's relaxation by the lake or exploring the arts, installations should reflect the essence of our city.

    • Professional Artists: Property owners must collaborate with professional artists with a proven track record of installing successful, long-lasting outdoor art. This ensures the quality and durability of the installations.

    • Design Approval: Final design concepts must be approved by the Arts in Alleys Program Committee before the project begins, ensuring alignment with program goals and aesthetic standards.

    • Diversity: Diversity must be reflected in both the art projects and the selection of artists, enriching the cultural landscape of Downtown Danville.

    • Financial Process: The Arts in Alleys Program will cover 50% of the project cost, with this portion paid upon completion. Currently, the program has approximately $30,000.00 of earmarked funds, with an anticipated influx of funding from grant sources throughout 2024 and 2025. The program is anticipated to run until January of 2026, or until program funding is exhausted.

    • Compliance: All proposed projects must comply with local zoning regulations, building codes, and other applicable laws.

    • Documentation: Applicants must submit a detailed project proposal outlining the scope of work, budget, timeline, and any additional relevant information.

    • Selection Process: Grant applications will be evaluated based on criteria such as feasibility, impact on the downtown area, alignment with program goals, and potential for long-term sustainability.

    • Approval: Final grant awards are subject to approval by the Arts in Alleys Program Steering committee comprised on the sponsorship partners.

    • Late or incomplete applications are not accepted.

    By adhering to these guidelines, property owners can contribute to the beautification and cultural enrichment of our downtown alleys, creating a lasting impact for our community and its visitors.

  • Artistic Discipline:

    Design: Projects including architecture, communications and graphic design, fashion design, historic preservation, industrial and product design, interior design, inclusive design, landscape architecture, rural design, social impact design, and urban design.

    Local Arts Agencies: Projects by arts commissions, arts councils, departments of cultural affairs; national or statewide service organizations partnering with local arts agencies; and arts projects by local government and special districts.
